ST. PATRICK’S DAY - MARCH 17TH

JUST AN EXCUSE TO DRINK MORE?

Why shouldn’t we love it? Americans have pretty much hallmarked this holiday as an excuse to over imbibe and pinch their crush if they don’t drink enough to work up the courage for a kiss. Our kind of holiday… just kidding, sort of.

There’s a lot of misinformation when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day. Here are the facts, some thought provoking while others are just fun:

  1. St. Patrick was actually born in either England, Scotland or Wales. He was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave.
  2. People in Ireland had celebrated St. Patrick since the 1600s, but the tradition of a St. Patrick’s Day parade began in America and predates the founding of the United States.
  3. Corned beef and cabbage is an American dish.
  4. Ireland observed this special day as a religious holiday and closed bars until the 1960’s.
  5. Chicago turns their river which runs through the city green each year in observance of our favorite easy to celebrate holiday, using food coloring.
  6. Originally, the color blue not green, was associated with St. Patrick.
